Array Introduction

Squash has been increasing in popularity over the last few years, especially amongst the younger players who are looking at ways of having fun, improving their fitness and keeping in touch with family, friends and work colleagues.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics 1999-2000 report, there were 33,700 players playing squash in Western Australia and more than 273,000 across Australia.

Some describe squash as the game for today - because it's time efficient, doesn't take long to get hot and sweaty and best of all it's sunsafe.

Squash is a great game for people of all abilities and ages from 6 years to 60 plus years. With the new huge head racquets and the new bouncy balls, players can get a really good workout.

Families and friends enjoy playing squash because they can have a lot of fun, excercise and catch up all at the same time. Mind you chatting in the middle of a rally takes some doing!

Squashworks caters for the squash needs for all players. There is the casual court hire where you and your playing partner can book a court. There is social competitions for the players who want to improve their squash skills and who enjoy playing other people. And for the player who wants to play other people in a more competitive environment there is the State pennant competition and weekend tournaments.

Array State pennants

State pennants is run by the State squash association, WA Squash, in conjunction with Squash Clubs that are based at squash centres around Perth.

Squashworks manages the pennant competition on behalf of The Belmont Saints Squash Club. There are two seasons a year in Autumn from February to end of June and Spring from August to December.

Competition is offered for both men and women players with grades from A grade to F grade. Players are placed into teams of three or four players and play one match at their home courts one week and at an away court the following week.

The state pennants is perfect for players who want to be part of a team and who enjoy playing different players at different squash centres around Perth. New players are always needed to join the pennant teams. Send us an email if you would more information or if you wish to join a team.

Array Social pennants

The social pennants is similar to the state pennants except that it is not as competitive and every match is played at the home centre every week.

Squashworks has two social pennant competitions - one held every Wednesday and Thursday night at our Belmont centre.

Players are placed in teams of 3 or 4 players and new players of all levels are welcome. Team & individual winners receive squash vouchers.

The competition begins at 7.30pm and is generally finished by 9.30pm. There is no suppers, except for the last night when we give out the prizes.

Social pennants is perfect for players who want to play different people and who don't want to travel too far to play squash.

Array Tournaments

If you haven't played in a squash tournament then you don't know what you are missing out on. Tournaments are a lot of fun, can be a really good workout, good experience and you get to meet some wonderful squashies. Best of all, you get to watch some of the best squash players, in Western Australia.

There are many squash tournaments held throughout the year, in Western Australia. Most are in the Perth metropolitan area and others in the country areas, like Kalgoorlie, Esperance and Mandurah. Some say the country tournaments are the best, not just for the squash but for the socialising that goes on all weekend.

Players of all ages and abilities can play in the tournaments. And you don't have to be playing in the State pennant competition to obtain a ranking to play. WA Squash supports social players to obtain a ranking through its player registration. Players need to be registered with WA Squash to play in the tournaments. Registration also covers you for insurance in case you are injured playing squash. Contact us to find out more about the tournaments and to place your name to our mailing list for coming tournaments.
